Accounting in Portugal
Financial Accounting
In Portugal, the old POC (Plano Oficial de Contabilidade) was in force up to 31 December 2009. From 01 January 2010 onwards this was replaced by the new SNC (Sistema de Normalização Contabilística) accounting system, which was introduced by way of Decree-Law 158/2009 of 13 July and based on Regulation (CE) no 1606/2002. The new regime applies to both large companies and small and medium sized companies, although information requirements are not as wide ranging for the latter.
